Your arrival

Well  baby boy, this is the first post in what I hope to be many on your blog of memories for your life. You certainly came in with a bang and we have no doubt that you are going to continue to surprise us with your big personality in the years to come. Here's the story of your arrival.  I developed something called preecplampsia during the last stages of pregnancy and my body basically started shutting down. The doctors tried home bed rest, but my blood pressure kept going up and I was seeing spots and had terrible headaches that made them fear I would have a seizure or a stroke. Therefore, they put me in the hospital with IV medicines to help keep those things from happening and tried to hold off as long as possible. We made it to 35 weeks and they could no longer regulate my blood pressure, so it was decided they would induce me. However, you decided to flip breech(you were a gymnast in my belly!) so they took you by c-section at 9:20 am on 8/18/17.  You were still five weeks early, so they checked you and determined that you needed to go to another hospital where there was a NICU to get better care. Therefore, at only about an hour old, you took your first ambulance ride down to Baptist in Columbia. Daddy followed and stayed with you that first day and night, but they made me stay at the original hospital for 24 hours since I had just had surgery and my blood pressure and swelling was still out of control. The next day, I rode in an ambulance down to Baptist and we were finally under one roof. From there we began our new normal of you being in the hospital and your sister being at home. As I write this, you are still in the hospital (day 17 but who's counting?) but we are optimistic that it will only be another week. You are on support for breathing, because you take too many breaths per minute without the support and don't get the oxygen you need. You are also tube fed right now. Once you can breathe slowly without your oxygen help, you will be able to feed without the tube. Once you master those skills, you can come home.

We are excited and anxious to have to you home so you can meet your big sister and settle in to our house. However, we know you are where you need to be right now and we don't want to rush or push you too soon. We love you so much and are so happy that you are here! We are sorry that you have to be in the hospital, but you are tough and we know you'll fight through this and be home soon!
